Viktoria Belashova: her experience of cultivating strawberry in the Ladnoe Settlement 17.09.2020 14:27:38

At the moment I live in Vladimirovskaya oblast, the Ladnoe Settlement. There is 1,2 hectares of land. Since I am from the South, I love strawberry very much. It is everywhere here: under trees, at the flowerbed, in the raised beds, lower beds, at the dam along the perimeter, along the pathways. I make different experiments: black spunbond, soil, straw, leaves, bark, combination of plants (and it’s great when there are some ants).

There are different varieties. There is one year and fall-bearing. I almost don’t cut runners of strawberry. It’s better if strawberry spreads instead of grass and leies. It grows also on woodchips and bark.

But what I want to say is not to care for the plants or go just a few times, or just to plant and forget, is wrong. Plants are alive, they need our information, our smell, our thoughts, because they grow on our site for us. And the hassle, indeed, is less on such a bed. It is easier to pull out the weed manually. This strawberry is second year. It is without watering.

Last year, when I planted it, I sowed mustard, watered it twice so that the strawberry would take root and the mustard would sprout. For the winter I left dead wood from mustard to trap the snow. In the spring I cut off everything dry (I didn't pull it out with roots, because worms need food). I'm happy with the immunity of strawberries. And it thanked us with wonderful fragrant, clean berries.
